"A falling out" is perfectly fine English.
I have an MA and a BA. Most of my friends are educated and articulate. We live in SF, CA and Boston (many 'Ivey League' grads) and we use the phrase regularly. And we haven't had a falling out over the use of it. I speak several foreign languages--my friends do not. We are all Americans.

I've taught English as a foreign language before and it was a tremendous learning experience as you say.
It's like a microcosm of the society you live in.
You are involved directly or indirectly, as a bystander, to the events that are going on in the school or country itself through the festivities. You get a chance to meet people from different parts of life who are interested in learning English or interacting with a foreigner (native English speaker).

Teaching was very challenging sometimes but it was a great life experience.
