I would certainly recommend becoming a paying member at ProZ.com. I started with a free membership, but I have had much more work since I decided to invest in ProZ.com membership. Now I don't have any delay before quoting for a "private" job posting, I have access to the LWA of every outsourcer on the Blue Board, and I can meet fellow translators via the site or at a powwow.

Sites like ProZ.com work for you 24 hours, even when you sleep. ProZ.com landed me two regular end clients, and I got many other jobs, not to speak about digital exposure. I ask all my clients how they found me and why they selected me, and not someone else. The answer is always the same: my online activity, especially in terminology help, translation contests, etc… ProZ.com alone offers more than 50 features that can help you create yourself and your brand. The sooner you start, the sooner you will start earning experience and money.
This past year has been great. I woke up one morning deciding to go back to translating full time but I was not 100% sure that my decision was the right one. I left my "safe" English teaching job and recontacted my old clients. It didn't take long and I was soon back on track. Thanks to ProZ I have made contacts with new agencies around the world. I have met colleagues worldwide and found new friends... Words are my passion and this is the ideal job for me with growing children who love to see me around. I don't even want to think where I would have been in my career if it weren't for ProZ.com. Most probably, I would remain stuck within the boundaries of my country, trying irritatingly hard to deliver valuable service in return for dramatically low compensation. ProZ.com has always opened up new horizons for me. My ProZ.com profile is my online business card, the one I can't do without.
ProZ.com is indispensable for two reasons:
1. The BlueBoard - where avoiding one bad payer will cover your subscription
2. The Translators' Directory - where clients go looking for translators.

In 2023, I began shutting down my freelance translator work. At 77, I am embarking on new challenges, but always related to the linguistic skills that ProZ helped me to hone.
I began translating professionally in 1992 and I was one of the first adherents to ProZ.com. I have watched it grow and expand, and it has been a great help to me, especially in the early years in garnering clients that I worked with for nearly two decades in some cases. The KudoZ terminology tools were essential in helping me build my own glossaries for the types of jobs I was involved in. I recall the names of colleagues that I never had the chance to meet in person but with whom I interacted on the KudoZ platform. It has been a truly rewarding experience.
Avant tout, ProZ.com représente pour moi une plate-forme d’échanges internationale permettant de côtoyer d’autres traducteurs via les forums et les formations. J’apprécie également la possibilité de pouvoir obtenir des informations sur les agences de traduction et les donneurs d’ordre en général grâce au Blue Board (certes non exhaustif, mais ô combien utile !), et de l’aide en cas de besoin avec les KudoZ. De plus, grâce à ProZ.com, j’ai trouvé un client avec lequel je travaille régulièrement : espérons que cela ne soit que le début d’une longue série!
Kudoz to ProZ.com and their Blueboard for translator and agency ratings!! It's worth being a paying member. I just let a company with late payment know that I was aware they had some negative feedback and that I would add mine by the end of the week if I did not receive payment by then. I also started following their profiles on LinkedIn. 5 minutes later I received my payment via Wise!

I am lucky that I am high in the directory for my language pair. I get more direct requests than I can keep up with and the rest of my jobs are referrals.
