It all comes down to that. In particular, it all depends on the location of the client (agency). Regardless of everything else (urgency, complexity and what not), an Italian client won't be able to afford even half the rate of a Swiss client.

The type of direct client does, of course, change considerably. Some have money, some don't - we just need to know our market.

Of course, though this depends on the type of client, as you say.

I only translate from one language into one language, but this too makes sense

Personally, my extra for urgency is included in the price anyway, but this sounds right

Absolutely. I recently asked four times my minimum for a job I don't really want and am waiting for the reply. The Board of Directors will need to decide and I've no idea if they'll accept, but if they're okay with it, I won't complain.
And, as Zea_Mays points out, we need to cover our costs.
Maybe one extremely important parameter is, however, missing from your list:
7. How much is a good translation worth to the client?
A private gallery, in my case, couldn't really care if the translation isn't perfect, but an international museum won't want to end up in the national newspapers because of a garbage translation, especially if they ended up on page one of the culture section last week.

My rates aren't influenced by anything but profitability from my side. I have a minimum profitable rate under which I simply won't work, regardless the budget of the (potential) customer or the attractiveness of the proposed project (but let's face it: a non or hardly profitable project can never be attractive). Since I mostly work with agency clients my rates are fixed at the beginning of our business relationship, so I basically can forget about rates afterwards.

It depends, of course, on where one is in ones career. For example, I now have over 20 years expierience and a solid customer base so I expect to be able to live well of my work. Profitability is a must. But when I started out, I obvioulsy took every opportunity to network and so took jobs worth well under 5 euros just to introduce myself and my skills.
