Hello all,
I have been a Platinum Member of Proz since March. I check everyday for new job post and apply to most of them. But I haven't got a reply to any. I am a bit worried that I am doing something wrong. Can you please suggest me some ways of getting at least a sample so I can show my work?

I think you have to improve your profile.
I'm Platinum since March too, and during these few months I had some contacts through my profile page, requests of samples and invites to do tests.
I think it's really important to give as much information as possibile in your profile, especially about your specializations. More words you put in the profile, more are the chances that a client could find you with a search from the freelance directory.

I think it's really important to give as much information as possibile in your profile, especially about your specializations. More words you put in the profile, more are the chances that a client could find you with a search from the freelance directory.
It's probably useful to actively take part to the life of the site (kudoz area, forums).
Moreover you can take advantage of the blue board chosing good agencies and sending CV by email offering your services.

One way of enhancing your chances to get jobs through ProZ.com is your profile - that's where prospective customers will learn about you.
You may like to include more relevant information about yourself, your education, qualifications, achievements, etc. It's always good to backup our stated specialisations with some data - list of projects completed, references from previous customers (if the agree to that, of course). You may like to include more relevant information about yourself, your education, qualifications, achievements, etc. It's always good to backup our stated specialisations with some data - list of projects completed, references from previous customers (if the agree to that, of course). There is also a convenient way to show samples of your work via Portfolio tab in your profile: you can post samples of your translations for customers to view and evaluate.
When biding for a job you need to convince the customer that you are the best choice - good profile page can be very convincing!

While you work on your virtual job search, don't forget about your "real" environment. Do you have business cards? Do all your relatives have some of your business cards so that when they meet someone who says "I have to understand this letter/article/book in English but I don't know who can help me," they will say "My cousin/sister-in-law/niece (etc.) is a translator. Here is her phone number; why don't you give her a call?"

When you meet new people, the conversation naturally turns to the subject of what one's work is--another natural opportunity to leave your new acquaintance with your card.
My first major client was the friend of a friend of the wife of my husband's doctor.
Another important client learned of me through a card that my brother-in-law had once given him at a conference.
Have you gone through your local telephone directory (or the one from the nearest large city, if you live in a smaller centre) to look for translation agencies? You can phone each agency and introduce yourself, asking whether you may send a copy of your CV. You can ask whether they would rather receive it by fax, e-mail or regular mail, and whom you should address it to (by name). ▲ Collapse

I think you should work more on your profile: for example, you indicate that you specialize in "Literature, Religion, Psychology, Children's literature, Advertising, Bussiness, Financial, History, Geography and all other general subjects" - you may very well actually be a specialist in all these disparate subjects, but the actual impression a potential customer may get is that you don't really specialize in anything.
