memoQ translator pro is a computer-assisted translation tool which runs on Microsoft Windows and on Mac using Parallels or VMWareFusion. It was envisioned more than 12 years ago by a group of enthusiastic linguists who aimed to develop innovative translation software which increases translator's productivity while being easy to learn and use.
Translation memory
memoQ features a state of the art translation memory which stores your translations and helps you reuse them. The translation memory boosts productivity and consistency throughout your project. With a translation memory in place you will never need to translate the same thing twice.
Term base

The Muse
Muses offer automatic suggestions for target terms as you type. Muses are “trained” by analyzing content that is available from your translation memories and LiveDocs corpora. The more content available, the more precise and personalized the suggestions will be.

Wojciech Sztukowski . An absurdly SLOW tool. It is even SLOWER locally than the online tools which send the data over the Internet after each sentence. I really don't understand the popularity of an expensive application which has SERIOUS PROBLEMS even with SCROLLING the text.

How easy is it to learn?

Châu NguyễnDuring my journey to find a replacement for SDL Trados, I stumble upon this software. This is a gem. The GUI is nice, everything is streamlined. All you need to do is import and translate. MemoQ will take care of the rest. Word is not enough for me to describe all my appreciation to this tool. Try it yourself and feel the difference.
Too bad I cannot afford it. Geez.

How easy is it to learn?
A waste of time and money - and BEWARE of reinstallation on new machines!

Susmi Rosenthal . MemoQ is hard to learn. It tries to copy SDL Trados, only using a new set of terms and shortcuts. But, the tool is far inferior to Trados, and much harder to learn. In every project, I've done for clients, I've had issues. And using the server version for one client didn't work at all, I had to ask the client to take it offline.
The last straw for me was, when I had to install MemoQ on a new system after a crash. The installation didn't complete, and the error included a Visual C++ Redistributable error. I contacted support, and I was told to uninstall all previous versions of Visual C++ Redistributable, install the latest version (provided in a link by Kilgray) and then try the installation again. This did work. BUT, uninstalling previous versions completely messed up other installations, e.g. my installation of Trados Studio, and my TMs and termbases then had to be fixed!
Having had only problems with MemoQ, I now translate all MemoQ files directly in Trados (yes, this wonderful suite lets you translate them directly in their tools), to completely avoid MemoQ altogether.
After the reinstallation disaster, and as I've had a lot of problems with MemoQ, I asked for them to cancel my license and return my money. They declined.
BEWARE, and watch out. Do not waste your money on this tool - SDL Trados may be more expensive, but it sure is worth it!

pcs_MCILSo far, this is the best CAT I have ever worked with. It covers everything I need, it is intuitive and has a great layout. And better than anything, it has a great support. Sometimes it crashes, but I never lost a segment, so I feel safe.
It has a great QA feature that works across multiple files belonging to the same project, as well as a find&replace feature.
I think it is the most versatile and powerful tool available to date, and it can satisfy both freelancer and agency's needs.
Price is a little high, considering it covers updates for one year only. However, it is totally worth it if you plan on using it extensively.

How easy is it to learn?

Jenny ZonneveldIt took me longer than I expected to get up to speed working with memoQ. The help file is not very clear, it explains the various functions, but not why you might want to use it.
Also the lack of keyboard shortcuts aggravated my RSI and compared to DVX2, MemoQ requires many more mouse clicks per action.
I miss the short (less than 10 minute) training videos provided by some other CAT tools to get to know the features.
