Searches in the WWW are very hit and miss, so I wonder if anyone knows of a site that provides this kind of info, particularly for Spanish and French books translated to English. The interest here is simply to obtain the official title of teh translated book in English.

A second question has to do with quotes from the author. On the basis that the words in inverted commas represent the EXACT words of the prestigious/notorious individual referred to in a text, I am of the opinion that one cannot simply translate those words and place them in inverted commas, as this would imply that these were the person's exact words, which they weren't since that individual did not express him/herself in the language you are translating into. So I paraphrase wherever possible. Unless I can obtain the original words (sometimes, but rarely, possible on the WWW). So again, does anyone have other solutions?
Library of congress http://lcweb.loc.gov/ There are many (somewhat confusing) search options of huge catalogs. When clicking on "full record" of item, the language codes are displayed (these are based on the MARC language codes http://www.loc.gov/marc/languages/lang_pt2.html)
Doing a basic search on "Revel, Jean-François" gave me 65 hits in eng and fre with the names of the translators in the title boxes! This is where I would start looking for a particular author/title.

Hiya! If you can find a translation on the www, i would use it - if not, I would simply translate them. I know that these arent EXACTLY how the author expressed them, but then again, how many famous "quotes" are there floating about that were not originally expressed in English? Even Shakespeare's translators (into French, German, whatever) had to start somewhere!
