I have always been working on Japanese laptops/computers (even cheaper/better than in the US). Voltage has never been a problem, and it takes roughly 1 minute to set up the languages you want to be able to type in from your control panel. Once you are in Word or any other application, a hotkey allows you to switch from one language to the other instantly (usually shift+alt). The only minus for me is that the Windows voice recognition application is in Japanese, which is useless as I always work into my native language, French. But the French DNS works great! One more thing to consider : if you work full time as a translator, you may want a desktop computer, as it can be very tiring to work on a laptop all day, five days a week. ▲ Collapse
