When I started freelancing almost ten years ago, I used a variety of methods to reach out to potential clients. I placed an ad in the local yellow pages (no lead whatsoever), I sent out hundreds of emails to translation agencies (this landed me a couple of jobs), but by far the most efficient way of promotion was using the features that are available on ProZ.com.

I've been registered with ProZ.com since 2000. I think Henry and the colleagues have done a great job, expanding the translation community and giving it weight and respectful attitude on behalf of the clients and translators.

ProZ.com was my only way of being independent while waiting for working papers to come through (which they didn't in 3 years!)...After that, I just stick to it and I will remain to do so because it has since become my "workplace".

ProZ.com has opened for me a completely new market, complementary to my existing one. I've learnt to apply new tools for marketing, business (software and systems) and translation.

One thing is for sure, I have never regretted my membership: the forums contain a wealth of extremely useful information and colleagues are always willing to help with advice; the Blue Board has saved me from making bad business decisions on at least two occasions - saving me hundreds if not thousands of Euros and countless hours of lost time; both organizing and attending powwows has allowed me to meet some incredible people and build a strong network.
