Decling unit demands? Oct 1, 2010

I agree that translation service demands are rising. But at a controversy, personal job demands to me can be personally low, what I am referring to as "declining unit demands." This can happen to many old face translators due to outburst of new competitors, declining fee rate, new technology (e.g. appearance of Google Translate, MT), preference to lower price level and budget services. I wonder how can we have a systematic survey or marketing report based on assumptions here?
