cloude+payment ?
May 2, 2013
Hi David and Drew
I'm a German native translator and I have two questions: 1.Could you tell me if translating in the cloud is the same structure as Trados or Memo Q? 2. Does the access to the cloude has costs? If yes could you provide the costs involved ?
Kind regards
Ines

Hi Ines - thanks for expressing interest in this webinar.
Could you tell me if translating in the cloud is the same structure as Trados or Memo Q?
In terms of "structure" there are some similarities and some differences between all CAT Tools. For example, most CAT tools offer a side by side or top/bottom editing environment where the source and target are seen on one screen - virtually all modern CAT tools incorporate this structure - so does MemSource. When discussing "the cloud" or SaaS (software as a service) products, generally that is being compared to a desktop or locally installed software. Software that used to be shipped on a CD, but now is usually downloaded to your PC and then installed and run from your desktop, laptop or local hard drive. In contrast, cloud based solutions require less computer processing speed and storage as the software "runs" in the cloud rather than your local machine. There are advantages to this approach including collaboration, real time insight (changes etc) and ability to use your TM's and work on projects from anywhere with an internet connection and a browser - no need to send files, carry a USB drive or worry about "not being able to work".
