In English (UK and US?) it's 'ampersand',
in German it's 'Geschäftliches und' ('Business and')
What is it in your language?
Mats

It is called the "Et-Zeichen", a ligature of the letters "e" and "t" in et, Latin for "and". In proper German it is allowed only as a part of company names.
It is also called "das kaufmännische Und" or "das Kaufmanns-Und", but never "das geschäftliche Und".
I know, I know, I am nit-picky.

I have never heard die 'das...'-variants in Germany or in communication with Germans (Swiss or Austrians) but mostly 'Geschäftliches Und'
The only competitor has been 'Et-Zeichen'
It is, as you say, AFAIK only used as part of company names.

Ampersand, but 'en-teken' or 'et-teken' is used as well.
