However, such an approach mixes epochs, pre/antecedents, manners, styles, devices, contexts (writer-audience and reasons-purposes), and super/supratextual aspects, let alone the literal and figurative senses. Those examples in very closely related (Germanic) languages say and show it all. Simply put, the machine cannot explain it nor tell the difference, demanding a high price for eliminating the grammar, mindfulness, and responsibility. Who will pay for mistakes?
I believe the problem is not nMT per se, but its PEMT-byproducts being used as an economical pressing to make ‘pure’ translators (those out of real business/direct clients) go even deeper. Considering the advertised low entry barriers, lack of knowledge and understanding, topped by natural and artificial needs, at least 70% would sheepishly accept this smorgasbord survival idea... Perhaps, some of them will learn how to win favorable terms, keeping their absolute bottom in mind, too. ▲ Collapse

Was ich als juristische Übersetzerin mit einschlägigen Qualifikationen in den vergangenen Jahren festgestellt habe: Das Volumen hat nicht abgenommen (eher im Gegenteil). Was jedoch stark zugenommen hat, ist die Komplexität der zu übersetzenden Texte.
Standardtexte wie AGBs, einfache Verträge etc. pp. fallen zusehends weg.
Stattdessen übersetze ich immer mehr verschwurbelte Schriftsätze und Anwaltsschreiben und sonstige, hoch anspruchsvolle juristische Dokumente. Und seh... Stattdessen übersetze ich immer mehr verschwurbelte Schriftsätze und Anwaltsschreiben und sonstige, hoch anspruchsvolle juristische Dokumente. Und sehr oft habe ich mit fehlerhaften Texten zu tun, mit denen MT sowieso völlig überfordert wäre.
Die fehlende Mischung aus Anspruchsvoll und Routine sorgt dafür, dass die Arbeit insgesamt deutlich anstrengender geworden ist - bei nicht unbedingt höher werdenden Tarifen. ▲ Collapse
