Finally, when today I had finnished proofreading my translation and wanted to send it to the customer, my mail-account did not take it, because the limit is some 20 MB.
I went to my G-mail-account and tried to send it from there, but three time the answer was:
oops, a server problem occured.
What may be the limit for G-mail attachments?
Regards
Heinrich

10 GB Dec 12, 2007

Hello,

the limit is 10 GB, not so bad. Split the file (with Winzip, Winrar) or use Yousendit.com

Bye

Noe

Is it compressed? Dec 12, 2007

That's the first thing to do - all text files can be very efficiently compressed. Unless it is PDF, which is already compressed.

Or you may ask your client for acccess to his FTP server and upload files there.

Or you can use some upload/download service...

Well I used ftp Dec 12, 2007

But 10 MB is very little. The file is full of images. When I split it in halves the one was 20 and the other 5 MB. So I gave up.
I will ask my provider to rise my limit. My old provider had 50 MB since years, but service was slow otherwise.
Regards
Heinrich

Gmail Attachment Dec 12, 2007

I have never sent 20M document via email attachment. My biggest file was 5-6M. 20M is too large for email to handle. Gmail won't help in this situation. You may use Yousendit.com or FTP to your client's server, if that's an option.

Best regards,
Haiyang

Used it just yesterday... up to 100 MB.
Fine, free, quite fast. No problemo.

youremail@language.proz.com Dec 12, 2007

Proz's email @ everyone.net has a 25MB file limit, and it works pretty good.

Outbound
Total message size (includes file attachments) can be up to 25 MB, or less when there is not 25 MB of storage space available.

(Free, ad-supported, Web Mail accounts are limited to total message sizes of 10 MB.)

Note: File attachments may increase 30-50% of their original file size when they are encoded to be sent via email by an email program or Web Mail.

For really large files, I love 4Share. You get 5GB of free space, you can upload up to 100MB files and it has an Explorer-like interface so you can manage your files and folders.

Mailbigfile was slow Dec 12, 2007

I tried mailbigfile.com, but the file did not get through and it was extremely slow, like in th old days when using dialing modems.

Disappointed with G-mail Dec 15, 2007

It seems that the better size of attachment is not bigger than 10MB for most Mailserver. I don't dare to risk the possible of missing any files. How do you?

Use your own server / domain Dec 19, 2007

Of all the possibilities so far, that turned out the best for me. You upload the stuff to your ftp and then the other party should download it. Everybody has bottlenecks, Google too. With your own server, you may have more bandwidth / faster transfers.

Vito

10mb is NOT the limit of gmail Dec 24, 2007

As far as I am aware the limit was raised to 15mb or 20mb recently, maybe even more...

I sent a 16mb compressed file no problems just last week.

I have also encountered that error. I think it's one of two reasons:

1) Google mail sometimes goes down and I often find that these error messages occur, but on trying later, no problem.

2) Check you are not sending too many other packages at the same time as the upload. Close all other tabs and appli

Be patient, it takes a while to upload (depending on your upload/download bandwidth split from your ISP). Don't click on send until it is fully uploaded.

You could always try the old nutshell of shutting your computer down and flushing out the RAM for about 30 secs to a minute. Can't really be sure that that helps but you never know.

Splitting the file with winrar is a really good idea too.

What I think is happening is that you are 'timing out' in the upload - whether that is down to you or google boottle necks as Vito and Carolina point out is still a mystery to me.

FTPing is another great solution of course.

Huw
