What to think when a job post has been around for some days and has received no quote? Thread poster: carriza

Would like to hear ProZ experienced opinions on this: When a job post has been around for some days and has received no quote at all, although the offer "sounds" good, is that a sign that the offer is not to be trusted or is it just a simple coincidence? Thank you*

Hello, I've only seen no quotes (in the English>Spanish combination) when the contact method gives an email address for the outsourcer. In that case, people will send their quotes directly and they won't appear on this page. On the other hand, when you're invited to submit quotes via ProZ, I always see the (usually large) number of quotes. I can't say for your language pair, but this may be the reason. To see if a job poster is to be trusted, go to the Blue Board, under the Jobs tab. Best wishes! Lucía ▲ Collapse | | | Anne Lee United Kingdom Local time: 07:19 Member (2003) Dutch to English + ... It is unusual. | Feb 9, 2009 |
I would say it is unusual. I have always had a swift response to any jobs I posted, although this was some time ago, in a different language. Since I do not work in your language pair, I have no idea which posting you are talking about and I am answering this without any knowledge of the posting you are referring to. The usual reason why this happens is because the company asked to be approached by email to an email address included in the posting, in which case you would not... See more I would say it is unusual. I have always had a swift response to any jobs I posted, although this was some time ago, in a different language. Since I do not work in your language pair, I have no idea which posting you are talking about and I am answering this without any knowledge of the posting you are referring to. The usual reason why this happens is because the company asked to be approached by email to an email address included in the posting, in which case you would not be able to see the response rate. The poster may have forgotten to close the posting, despite the job being assigned. The company may not have a good reputation on the Blue Board, but this does not seem to stop absolutely everyone from quoting. Maybe the job forms part of a very large project that many translators have already tried their hand at but refused to get further drawn into for good reason. Maybe the subject matter is very specialised, or known to be extremely time-consuming for little money? Maybe the posting was a little confusing or contained an error? Or maybe many people are busy. Maybe the poster is asking himself exactly the same question. The only way to find out is to learn about the poster's rating on the BlueBoard and/or to apply yourself. ▲ Collapse | | | wonita (X) China Local time: 02:19 More than happy | Feb 9, 2009 |
