I get some request to translate image files (.jpg, .tif, etc) and until now I have been subcontracting the work but I would like to purchase the appropriate software to be able to modify the text in these files.

Any suggestions?

Thanks in advance,

Ricardo

Thank you Henry. I do get some of those from time to time. Could you give me the particulars?

For text in Photoshop... Jul 23, 2004

there is a free tool called Rainbow

www.opentag.com/rwstools.htm

never try/need it till now.

But that is for PSD files (with text layers inside), if you have a jpeg.I think the only way to do it is to use a OCR program like Finereader.

Saludos

What tools is that, Henry? Jul 23, 2004

I usually work straight in Photoshop or Illustrator, but would be interested in any tool that would make text editing foolproof in graphics application.

Thanks,
Roberta

I will give it a look-see. Most of what I get, though, are jpg and tif formats, and OCR is not an option because the client wants an exact replica of the graphics, but translated.

Ricardo

As many programs as possible Jul 23, 2004

I have about a dozen of programs to edit and/or
create graphics, and each one has its peculiar
advantages and disadvantages.

So I recommend a big toolbox to do the work
as quickly, well and comfortably as possible.

As free tool for image editing Jul 23, 2004

I recommend "Gimp" (http://www2.arnes.si/~sopjsimo/gimp/) I think is the best free program and not so far away from the best and expensives programs like PS etc. Enough to do what you want.
But think that a jpg file ist just a compressed file and there is NO text inside. So you have to retouch not to translate

PaintShop Pro Jul 23, 2004

I've been using PaintShop Pro for a number of years and haven't needed to buy anything else, apart from one package for a very specific job. It's cheaper than Adobe Illustrator or comparable Corel products. It's not a very "buggy" program, but free updates are available for download every so often.

As I understand these will not help you with jpg, gif, etc. But I have seen the demo and if you are doing very large photoshop projects, it seems that this can save you enough time to make up the investment.
