It's like getting a fax or hard copy — there's no copying and pasting. You might be able to use character recognition software to produce editable text, though I don't know how well that would work.

You should treat it as an image file. First open the pdf file with ABBYY FineReader 7.0 and then convert it to a Word Document. I often do it and get satisfactory results. Hope that helps.

Well, if your document is in English, then you are certainly in luck. You can use OCR as Selcuk suggested or you can use a program that converts pdf files into word files. There are some suggestions in this thread

http://www.proz.com/post/141276#141276. However, if your file is in arabic then it would be complicated because you will have to buy an OCR specifically for arabic. The prices range for these products anywhere from $400 to $4000. As for the conversion software, no one was able to suggest one that worked with Arabic even though it might be among the languages supported in some products but it still does not work. So, good luck. ▲ Collapse

Open it with Acrobat. Click on Select Image tool on toolbar, choose the area you want to copy, press Ctrl+C, and paste the content into another file.

Thank you all for your help.
Actually the document is luckily in English which makes it easy to try an OCR to turn the image to an editable format.
Thanks again | | |

I tried to copy and paste the image to a word file but it's pasted as an image.
Thanks again | |

linadia Franska till Arabiska + ... TOPIC STARTER Can't find the paper capture in Acrobat 6 | May 27, 2004 |
Hi Roberta,
Thank you for your help.
I have Acrobat 6 but couldn't find paper capture any where. I looked in the help and on their site but found nothing. So I downloaded the paper capture plug-in from the link you gave me but it works only with version 5.
So do I have to go back to Acrobat 5 to use it, or there is a built-in tool in Acrobat 6? In the tutorial, they say they have but I couldn't find it.
Thanks | | |

Hello all,
Thank you all for your replies and suggestions.
I tried Acrobat 5 with the paper capture tool and it worked, but some parts of the document could not be recognized so they remained in image format.
The result was OK, better than nothing.
As for ABBYY Fine Reader, I'm familiar with it. I use it to scan texts and it's helpful.
Thank you and good day to you all.

After running the Paper Capture tool, you might want to try its commands to find any unrecognized text: it will show you the "image", bitmap original and allow you to type in what it should actually be. Quick and easy.

Thank you Roberta for the tips.
During the process of recognition, it gave error messages that some parts of the document could not be converted to text.
But I'm afraid I don't know how to do this.
Thanks
