That doesn't sound right to me! Although I am not a potential target, I will keep my eyes peeled.
Who or what prevents you from writing a support ticket?

Personally I would not ever consider the purchase a TM without first getting a written document stating that the owners of the TM have approved the distribution. Then I would need a sample of the TM to ascertain its quality, then I would probably consider a purchase and would ask for details of the company. All this would take time, exactly the time you need to avoid being fooled.

1. from what you said, you were not "given" this site by ProZ, you were sent the address by someone who contacted you via ProZ.
2. Have you contacted the company who contacted you to explain your problem? | | | Clarification | Jun 19, 2009 |
Hello all,
I was contacted by ProZ to purchase TMSTash.
I would like to confirm that this is not the case.
Emails you receive from ProZ.com (as opposed to emails received through your profile from others, or instant messages sent through the site) will be clearly marked as such, and the email addresses will end in @proz.com.
The people who may contact you from ProZ.com, or sign an email sent from ProZ.com (unless the signature is from the entire team) are all here: http://www.proz.com/?sp=info/team
If an email you receive comes from a sender that is not @proz.com but claims to be associated with the site, you should submit a support request on it.
If you receive advertising of the type described here, through the site, you should also submit a support request.
Best regards,

Hi there,
While reading your post, I remembered receiving an e-mail from the person mentioned in your message. At the time it sounded more like a TM exchange among translators and certainly not a commercial website. I exchanged a couple of e-mails with that guy and he sent me a TM of 7500 units. I sent him one of my TMs, but we stopped there. I didn't buy anything from him. Interesting to see the whole thing has turned into a commercial operation (I don't know what to think about it... How did you guarantee that you were not sharing proprietary, confidential information from your customers? Was it all text you invented in the source text and then translated yourself? Or was it actual content from translations you had done for your customers? In the latter case, did you request a confirmation from your customers that you were allowed to share that contents.
Did the other person give you any reassurance that the materials he was sharing with you were completely his property and that any customers whose work is included in the memory actually agreed to have their texts shared? | | | Being Earnest Italien Local time: 06:17 Italienska till Engelska TOPIC STARTER Full email - Beware | Jun 19, 2009 |

Dear Sirs,
I am interested in knowing whether the use of the materials used to create your TMs has been expressely authorised by their copyright owners. If I purchase one of your TMs, what guarantee can I have that the materials I am using have been obtained with their owners' approval?
Thank you in advance!
