I bought the XPS a couple of months ago (in the UK). I spent a while weighing it up against the Vostro and somebody then convinced me to go for the XPS, I can't quite remember why now, it might have been the fact that it wasn't an Intel processor or the fact that the keyboard is 'off-set' (then again that might be the Latitude), which I find very annoying. For what it's worth, I got the XPS i7 64-bit, 6 GB RAM and it's great. The left mouse button did pack in within a fortnight (a known fault if you Google it) but you can't fault Dell's next-day on-site warranty service and when you're freelance and don't have an IT dept at your beck-and-call I find that invaluable. ▲ Collapse

1) If you use Trados 2007, get Win 7 32-bit, because Trados 2007 has problems with 64 bit Win 7
What problems are these? I don't use Trados 2007 very often, but I haven't come across any problems with it yet, and I've been using it on Win 7 64 bit for a year now, but it would be useful to know what the issues are just in case.

I use Trados 2007 all the time, with Office 2003 and Win 7 64 bit. No problems at all.
1) Try to have as much RAM as possible. The computer will use less Hard disk as a buffer and will run faster
2) Try to buy a machine with a fast Hard disk
3) Windows 7. Programs are mostly tested with it now.
A fast machine costs money, but it will be paid soon by the efficiency and it will cope with software updates for more years than a machine that is limiteed.

Just to clarify. Trados 2007 works perfectly with Win 7 64 bit.
It doesn't work with Office 2010 64 bit.
I'm running Trados 2007 on Win 7 64 bit and Office 2010 32 bit.
