A new scam is making the rounds targeting freelance translators, this time involving a fake freelancing platform: Braxenta.org. The scammers are pretending to manage a literary translation project involving Luigi Pirandello’s La Vita Nuda.
The scam involves a professional-looking offer with good rates, detailed timelines, and links to a legit-looking website.
🛑 Key red flags:
- The request itself —to transcribe an audiobook before translation— makes no sense, as the original Italian text is easily accessible
- Domain braxenta.org was registered just days ago (May 16, 2025)
- The website is full of false claims (e.g., “500 million jobs completed”), empty social links, and blog posts all backdated to the same date
- The scam email comes from [email protected] —the name "Roxanne Franchet" has no digital footprint
- The offer includes promises of a 50% advance, usual indication of an overpayment or “transaction fee” scam
Fake freelancing platforms are becoming a very common way to run online scams, so I encourage you to always start by searching the name and domain between quotation marks (e.g. "braxenta.org") on Google or your preferred search engine; check the domain's registration date on a platform like who.is, and click around the website looking for inconsistent dates, empty links and filler ("Lorem ipsum") text.
