I received this message on July 3 \'01 after completing their test, it was not until yesterday that I realized it had been a Phantom Agency who tricked me and got the translation for free. I sent the person an e-mail and the address does not exist anymore. I wanted to share with you my experience so that we can pinpoint their names.

If they want something from you, let them pay for it.
The first time, they can give you a minimum assignment for a minimum fee and assess your quality.
You can\'t walk into a shop, take a pair of shoes (without paying), walk around in them for months and then say, \"No, sorry, I don\'t like your \'test shoes\'. I\'m not going to pay for them.\"
Unfortunately, there are many (including here at ProZ) who will gladly give \"their shoes... See more If they want something from you, let them pay for it.

I have yet to hear anything back from this person, since he \"requested\" my CV in the congratulations email I got. Judging by the sheer number of language pairs, I can\'t help but think he uses outside people for translations.

Hi everybody.
Please note that I am currently working with Mr. Denis Supersac from Sap translations who is also a ProZ.com member but the e-mail address and the name changed. I can give you the new e-mail address so that you can contact him directly or I can tell him about this. I received a very short translation test from him too but it was about 200 words.
I think that in this case there\'s no need to worry.

We indeed changed our former name from SAP TRANSLATIONS TO SOFTWARE TRANSLATIONS A WHILE AGO.
Of course we informed all our freelance translators about this change in due time so it is not very clear to me what this original message in this forum is aiming at.

I\'ve seen quite few jobs posted which state that a sample translation is required, but will be provided upon application.
This system is open abuse. Just imagine someone having 2000 words that need translating. They post their job, and get, let\'s say 20 applicants. 100 words each from different parts of the job, and they have their translation.

Hello there !!
Thanks to Werner and Edlih for their comments and recommendations. I will certainly not do any more free tests which take precious time and effort. It is a fact that they can perfectly divide the text among collegues and get the job done for free. I find it outrageous. Cristina
