Feedback from members has consistently requested us to work on the improvement of the content found in users' profiles.
We are running a campaign to improve site wide profiles content based on the profile updater, a tool designed to provide quick and easy overview and updating of key profiles fields.

We are running a campaign to improve site wide profiles content based on the profile updater, a tool designed to provide quick and easy overview and updating of key profiles fields.
Since you decide on your profile content, the updater includes the option to let you opt-out of receiving further reminders. No hard feelings - just let us know not to bother you.
As part of this campaign, a pop up asks users to add information in their profiles or simply tell us they do not plan to. It is not shown to those who have used the quick profile updater even once, to update even one thing, or opted out of the reminders.
The results of this campaign have been excellent so far, and this added information will help ProZ.com deliver on its mission of providing tools and opportunities for you to network, expand your business, do better work and have more fun. It will also benefit the rest of the ProZian community and attract better jobs to the site.

I would like to know if the search function is able to distinguish between translators and interpreters or translators/interpreters and, possibly, exclude members/users who do not state interpretation services in their profiles at all? I mean such cases when the outsourcer is clearly asking for an interpreter so I hope I'm not trying to deprive anyone of anything. At least, this is not my intention. I'm merely trying to narrow the results to the point and make it easier on everyone, from outsour... Seems like for now interpreting is incidental, so to speak, and we all are "language service providers". If so, is there any intention to isolate it into a separate search category? Recent poll showed a very high percentage of "pure translators". Kinda hard to fish out our small troops:-).
Maybe some colleagues would argue that many components like editing, DTP etc. also deserve special attention. Possibly, but I think it would be reasonable to separate TR and INT first.
Yes, I do have a vested interest - I do not seek any other jobs from Proz.
What do the colleagues think?

I brought this same issue up, in June 11/06, in a forum created to report bugs in the Interpreter Search function (see http://www.proz.com/post/361493#361493 ) I also mentioned it to Florencia, a staff member, back in December 1 in a powwow.
If you go to http://www.proz.com/?sp=interpreter_search and you use EN > ES as alnguages and refine it with Argentina as a country value, you get: 161 Plats and and a total of 892 "interpreters". Even my business associate is listed and she is NOT an interpreter. Being an active interpreter I can guarantee that there are not 900 REAL interpreters among the proZians registered in Argentina.
Now, many people list themselves as interpreters (see the interpreters forum http://www.proz.com/post/474648#474648 ) and even worst, they dare to take jobs in consec. despite having NO clue.
Let us hope the function is debugged or a new way is found to filter those fake interpreters (maybe those who want to be listed as interpreters could submit a list of events interpreted -unless AIIC or TAALS or similar)
