I used to do much MS-bashing befor, but one must give them credit for having provided users with a system, which united the computing world and saved us much trouble.
Last year I updated my laptop to XP2 without a glich. I doubt with Linux such a major update would work without reading a lot of those awful textfiles.

Hi,

I'm lazy, so I do not read any text file when I do an upgrade. I just rely on the graphical setup.

I used Red Hat Linux for years and now I use Fedora (a Linux distro sponsored by Red Hat). I never had problems updating a computer with Linux.

Here in my office I have Macs and PCs. Mac updates are absolutely painless, no need to worry for anything.

My Linux machines run "yum" every night and they are always up to date, so I don't have to look after them.

The only machine that I have with Windows is the one that requires attention. It is able to download updates automatically, but it usually needs to restart after applying them. When I leave a program running or a document open, it is unable to complete the update and requires my participation.

IMHO, windows updates are lousy because very often they require to restart the computer.

Not just trouble but money. Lots of it. It was not really a Microsoft initiative but IBM's blunder.

I was a Mac evangelist until Apple switched to Unix (Mac OS X). No advantages in using a fringe OS that is harder to use and troubleshoot than the market leader, not to mention the need for expensive and hard-to-upgrade hardware.

I still use OS9 and believe that the original Mac OS was the best OS ever.

Yes, there are troubles in Windows, but also lots of resources to tackle them. There are many problems in OSX, as daily visits to macfixit.com would prove. And there are much, much fewer resources for Mac support.
