I like Japanese, especially the Japanese spoken by Japanese women, sounds like a poem. | | | Gerard de Noord Frankrike Local time: 10:52 Medlem (2003) Engelska till Nederländska + ... Dutch, of course | Apr 2, 2011 |
But if you would ask me which language sounds the best, I'd have to say German. Especially when sung. I have a foible for Berlinerisch.
Cheers,

Sorry to say that, as if I had no sense of patriotism. But my mother tongue sounds monotonous therefore boring for me, and its grammar is also a bit chaotic, very diffficult to teach.
I don’t like German either, sounds too hard.
Hope I will change my mind in the future. | | | veratek Brasilien Local time: 05:52 Portugisiska till Engelska + ... there's no question about it :-) | Apr 2, 2011 |
As a whole, the most beautiful language ever is Latin.
Exclusively from an oral standpoint, currently, it's Italian, hands down.

I find this a hard one to answer. I feel it depends more on who it saying it. English can sounds soft and tender, but also fierce and harsh. That said, out of the languages I have knowledge of, Lithuanian sounds the most interesting to me as it really doesn't sound like anything else. | | | Paul Dixon Brasilien Local time: 05:52 Portugisiska till Engelska + ... Depends on what you mean by "most beautiful". If you go by the sound, I would say Italian, definitely. If you go by richness of language, English. If you go by ease in creating and expanding the language, Esperanto wins by a mile.
However, the most beautiful language for romantic communication is Slovenian, which is a language for lovebirds, having the dual form. Indeed, as Tjaša Jakob writes, “the dual form is the most wonderful thing about Slovenian - it can be very romantic. I... See more Depends on what you mean by "most beautiful". However, the most beautiful language for romantic communication is Slovenian, which is a language for lovebirds, having the dual form. Indeed, as Tjaša Jakob writes, “the dual form is the most wonderful thing about Slovenian - it can be very romantic. I remember the first time I used it with my partner: then I understood the unique beauty of it” (see JAKOB, Tjaša - The Dual in Slovene Dialects. Mentioned in http://zalozba.zrc-sazu.si/index.php?q=en/taxonomy_menu/3/74).
As the popular saying goes, "Beauty is in the eye of the beholder". However, my overall vote is still for Italian. ▲ Collapse | | | Buenos Aires Spanish | Apr 2, 2011 |

To sing, the sounds of Italian and Latin come second and third on my list.
Cheers,

Italian !
And that is why, aside from my 3 professional languages, it is the one I know best among my 4 "hobby" languages. Because the subject is about beauty, I'll keep my message short, no explanations needed Ok, I fess up, among other things, it reminds me of the joy of learning and excelling in Latin in high school, and also the musicality of it has a "familiar" quality for me < Argentine Spanish...
but Polish spoken by a Russian man sounds even better

I also love the way Argentineans speak Spanish...

opolt Tyskland Local time: 10:52 Engelska till Tyska + ... (Standard) Arabic -- at least the script | Apr 2, 2011 |
I learned the basics of Arabic some years ago, and as far as the script is concerned, Arabic wins hands down!
You may no believe me, but the script is not difficult at all:

*The Arabic script is highly efficient, almost as if invented by a scientist or software engineer. Truly a work of genius (or geniuses)! (Once you've learned it, the Latin script looks child-like by comparison.)
* Arabic calligraphy is one of the most beautiful things humankind has inventend! Look it up in Wikipedia once, you won't regret it. As an example, here's an animation of the calligraphic Al Jazeera logo: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/File:Al_jazeera_Calligraphy_Animation.gif
Surprisingly, the pronunciation didn't turn out overly difficult at all. On the contrary, I was able to borrow some things from English and Spanish. And I rather like the guttural sound of it, especially in songs and poems.
I'm desperate to learn Arabic again -- if I only had the time. Sigh.

I like very much the sound of Portuguese. I don't know why, but I am probably influenced by the Brazilian music, which is one of my favourite. | | | Cécile A.-C. Local time: 10:52 Medlem (2010) Portugisiska till Franska + ...
Athough I love the sound of Portuguese (its 'sh') and the deep meaning of the words, I love the soothing sound of French, one hardly needs to open the lips, words flow easily like music with little to no effort. As Senghor said: "c'est la langue du rapprochement des peuples, la langue des Droits de l'Homme et de la paix."
