Dear colleagues,
I have a multipage file (.tif) with scanned text (as image) which I need to convert into text file. I have FineReader but it does not recognize this multipage file. If I understand correctly, first I have to split this multipage file. Is there any way of splitting except for copy+paste of each page into a new file?

Regards,
Kristine

Download software Sep 25, 2007

Search on internet after software, say "tif splitting" or something like that. There should be freeware versions (know nothing about quality, just try).

It should also be possible to convert tiff to pdf.

Solution in Fine Reader Sep 25, 2007

Why don't you try to split the image in Fine Reader.
Select Split Image from the Image menu to open the Split Image dialog. In this way you can split an image into 2 or more parts which subsequently will become separate pages.

Regards,
Sherefedin

jI am not sure we are talking about the same thing.
I have a file with scanned text of many pages. Each page is an image, so I don't need to split the image itself.

Microsoft Office Document Imaging Sep 25, 2007

Hi Kristine,

If you have Microsoft Office XP or later, you can use Microsoft Office Document Imaging. If this tool isn't installed at your computer, install from MS Office the CDROM. This tool supports editing documents scanned by Microsoft Office Document Scanning.

Just re-save separate pages and the use FineReader.

HTH,
Natalia

Another trick with MS Document Imaging and PDF Creator Sep 26, 2007

If you have MS Document Imaging, you can also install the free PDF Creator, which installs as a printer driver. Choose resolution of not less than 300 DPI in PDF Creator settings. Print the TIFF file with Document Imaging and PDF Creator selected as your printer to create a PDF document. FineReader should now be able to recognize this file without a problem.

HTH

Piotr
