If I say yes, that means my work quality would have been worse in the previous period, and I don't think that's the case.

In the last 3-5 years? I don't know... Jun 26, 2023

I started so long ago that I'd be extremely disappointed in myself if the quality of my work hadn’t improved. Most of my customers are repeat clients, so they seem to be satisfied with my work. Nevertheless, I don't rest on my laurels and I strive to better myself everyday…

On the topic of quality..... Jun 26, 2023

Quality does not increase or decrease. It improves or worsens.

Perhaps you meant to say "The quality of my work has IMPROVED over the past 3 - 5 years".

You can't improve on perfection.

Disagree. Both are fine. If you can have high/low quality then you must be able to increase/decrease quality.

OK guys, is it increase or improve now, what do we take from here?

Macmillan says you are both right, check the “Verbs frequently used with quality” section:

"There's always room to improve", they say... Jun 27, 2023

That's our common aim, I'm sure.
No one wants to go in the opposite direction.

Sure! My work this year is better than it was last year, which was better than it was the year before, and so on.

I hate to think what my work must have been like when I started doing translation about forty years ago. Unless there is some kind of Zeno's paradox at work here.

And my work will continue to improve until one day it will be perfect - and then I will die.

What a daft question.

This year, my work is worse than it was three years ago, not to mention five. I'm thinking of how I can make it even more worser. Using AI would be a great idea except that translation AI is so good these days; there's no way I'll succeed at making my work worse the lazy way. I'm afraid it will still take effort

I wonder Jun 27, 2023

Gosh!.. I wonder, who on Earth would say "My translations became disgusting! And, well... I'm desperately proud of it!"

I really really don't want to see what I churned out last century. Then again, I have sometimes stumbled across translations of mine and thought "wow that was good, I should use that term more often!".

There's a very peculiar feeling when you suddenly come across a term and realise that it's the word you should have been using all along for something that's always been like a thorn in a place you can't get to. A eureka moment, but tinged with a deep shame that you've gone all this

Sure, if you compare my work today with my work two decades ago, or three, or four, then I'm definitely better now than then. It would be rather sad if that wasn't true.

Over the last 3-5 years, though, I doubt there's much difference.

Since I only recently started translating in certain fields, I'm pretty sure I'm still on a learning curve with them.
And in some fields like IT, terminology changes, and progress is made so that your knowledge becomes irrelevant.
