Early results seem to show that many of you have had your IQ tested.
I'm one of those who voted "No, but I'd like to", so I'd like to hear the opinion of those of you who were tested (though of course not what your score was, )
Do you think that these tests are truly scientific? Why did you decide to take the test?

For my first year of high school, I wanted to go into a special international program. As I had missed the regular inscriptions, they did a second test, I don't recall much of it, but it did look a lot like the online tests (associate shapes, find the missing link, etc.).
I remember that we were only 3 taking the test, I think that only one place was open at that time, and I ended up taking it. Finally, I hated that program and when back to regular high school the year after.

Yes, back when I was 4-5 years old. Obviously, I don't remember much of it.
As for lately or as a teenager (I understand the tests are different depending on development stage), my answer is "no, what for?". I don't see the point in it, besides from an ego competition like Lany said.

I'm told that Mensa accepts SAT tests from before the mid 1990s as intelligence tests, even though the scores weren't reported using a traditional IQ scale. (The newer SATs reportedly focus more on scholastic skills than on intelligence per se, which seems more useful.)
I think I was also given a proper "IQ test" by my school when I was about 10 years old.

There used to an exam in Northern Ireland for getting into secondary school and part of it was an IQ test. They had us all year practicing for this test, so by the end of the year, I was extremely intelligent, I'm sure.

I was tested as a child, and have arranged for my children to get officially tested for a very practical reason: gifted program. The official cutoff in Canada is 98% (IQ=130). Gifted schools are reputed to be significantly better than regular schools. The only problem is that in English-speaking Canada there are no gifted programs for French-speaking children (even though there is a significant number of gifted French-speaking children), so you either have to send them to a gifted program and fo... Hi all!
I went to an American School, kindergarten to High School. Thank God, language in most classes was PT! I wasn't good at all in Math in Pt - imagine if it were taught in En!! At grade school - don't remember exactly when, I only remember I suffered a lot we took this IQ test. Later, the teacher told my class that we - as a group - had scored so high (geniuses ??) Both in UK primary and secondary schools, it used to be common practice to test the pupils' IQs.
I remember when I was in first or second year at secondary school (13-14 years old) we stole the results (which were kept secret from us) from our form teacher's desk. It turned out I had scored 140 which was supposedly regarded as "genius level", not that it's done me much good since then...

we did one for my daughter, because she was only 5 when we decided to send her to school. At that time she was so much bored in the kindergarten, so she started leaning writing and counting by herself. (we never encouraged her to do so.)
The result was very satisfying.
Where does her high IQ come from?
Me of course!

I never took an official IQ test, but I did very well at high school and college... only to find out my academic skills were almost worthless when it comes to real life, relationships, etc.
My wife is the most intelligent and creative person I know, and she can hardly do any math calculus without a calculator

As many before me have said, it has been many years since the measurement of IQ was proven to be an extremely inaccurate measurement of only one type of intelligence.
As I say, in my school we were given lots of practice and tips about doing IQ tests, whereas in my daughter's school they were given one without any preparation whatsoever. I don't know the results of either, but I am sure training and practice make a difference and this alone destroys any possibility of the thing bei... I think it was our public school that tested my siblings and me when we were small, but my mom refused to tell us our numbers. Probably a wise move. We kids had enough to fight about as it was!
