Hi all,

I'm a new member from Rome who joined in July.
What if an agency, after officially assigning you an interpreting job, cancels part of it, say one day out of three, on the day immediately before the day for which the assignment was scheduled, as requested by the end client?
The agency in question said they'll pay the canceled day anyway, but I'd just like to know if this is common, what the usual practice is and what the interpreter is entitled to.

It looks like the Italian law provides for a refund due to a loss of profit. But I wonder how this is generally quantified, i.e. depending on the agreed rate for the job or...?

Yes, it is perfectly normal. If you have arranged things to work with them that day, and they are cancelling the job shortly before it takes places, yes, they still have to paid. The logic is that you refused other jobs to work for them or, as I said, did arrangements.

If they cancelled the event reasonably long before, then that could be a different story.
