And I found a solution. I provided terrifically wrong translation for short segments, "different from MT". And was finally paid

Translators introducing nonsense into machine translation in order to get paid is a whole nother level of ludicrousness than computers asking me to prove I'm not a robot.
I should be working, but I can't stop laughing at this!

I DID get paid in the end!!! Apr 27, 2023

So, I did get paid (few weeks ago, forgot to post it here). I have managed to find the series I subtitled on a streaming platform, where my subtitles were not used, BUT I have checked the subtitles in my language (done by several translators) and some of them were of horribly low quality (clearly have not been QCed). I've also sent my subtitles to someone working in subtitle QC to check my work (to know that I really did a good job). They have checked several of my files and didn't find any majo... See more
So, I did get paid (few weeks ago, forgot to post it here). They have checked several of my files and didn't find any major issues (just two commas and one typo).
So I started sending more e-mails to the agency, asking and asking and asking about the payment, telling them I'm ready to take legal action (which I was), also telling them about the extremely bad quality of the subtitles that were actually used.
They've avoided answering most of my questions, but (because I was asking for a specific complain from their client) they've sent me the reason for rejection, which was (aside of the MT issue) also stating that there were "many lines where the CPS was close to 30" - for those who don't know, CPS means 'characters per second' and for the particular subtitles it should have been up to 20... and with this they basically gave me all I needed, because I knew there was not a single line with CPS over 20 in my files. I sent them kinda a "gotcha" e-mail...
Aaaaaaaand they've paid me.
Tbh I believe someone made a mistake and sent their client the original MT files, not my translation (therefore the "CPS 30, too similar to MT"). I didn't receive any further explanation, and needless to say I won't be working for them again.

Just wanted to let you know, and thanks again to all of you for your replies and very helpful suggestions
