Bismillaah

Assalaamu 'alaikum (peace be with you)

I have some different dictionaries set by SDL MultiTerm. How can I change an entry from dictionary X to dictionary Y without having to re-create and delete?

Thank you in advance!

A. D.

Some solutions... Dec 2, 2008

It's possible.
1) You can export the entry (Ctrl+Shift+X or Entry > Export this entry)
2) You delete the entry
3) You import this entry to the second termbase.

The structure of both termbases should be the same.

And in fact, it's rather slow.
If the structure of your term entry is very complex, it may be interesting.
Otherwise, a copy-paste operation will be faster.

If you want to move multiple entries, it's possible too but it's very tricky and fastidious.
Almost all Multiterm export filters don't work as expected and if you want to use the Multiterm xml format, it's a lof of work to create import/export defintions and filters.
Jahannah.

Cheers
GG

No Drag & Drop! Dec 2, 2008

Thank you for your reply!

I was about to try this option, but I was looking for, maybe dreaming of, something like (Drag & Drop).

Any idea or document about the multi-entry solution?

Thank you in advance!

No chance.

Do your entries are complex or it's only a 1:1 term list?

If you have a 1:1 list or similar, it will be simple.
Export your source termbase as Tab delimited, open and save in Excel, cut and paste your entries in a second xls file, then import 'em to the target termbase using Multiterm Convert.
Then import the remaining terms in an empty termbase and delete the source termbase if the second import is correct.

If it's a complex termbase it's really very tricky.
I have some idea how to do it but Trados is my secondary CAT tool and I should test it.

Cheers
