Swedish term

få dem på plats sista biten vid otillgängliga skarvgropar

Swedish to English Tech/Engineering Construction / Civil Engineering
From a contract concerning "kabelskarvar":

"
I den mån det är nödvändigt med assistans av underentreprenören för att få skarvcontainer på plats sista biten vid otillgängliga skarvgropar, skall kostnaden för detta ersättas av Beställaren.
"

= "To the extent necessary for assisting the subcontractor in getting [.... ????????], the costs of this shall be reimbursed by the Purchaser."

My comprehension loses its footing after "på plats". How is "sista biten" functioning in this sentence?

And, am I right to conclude that "skarvgropar" are pits in which the joints are installed?

Thanks for any assistance

When entering new questions, KudoZ askers are given an opportunity* to classify the difficulty of their questions as 'easy' or 'pro'. If you feel a question marked 'easy' should actually be marked 'pro', and if you have earned more than 20 KudoZ points, you can click the "Vote PRO" button to recommend that change.

How to tell the difference between "easy" and "pro" questions:

An easy question is one that any bilingual person would be able to answer correctly. (Or in the case of monolingual questions, an easy question is one that any native speaker of the language would be able to answer correctly.)

A pro question is anything else... in other words, any question that requires knowledge or skills that are specialized (even slightly).

Another way to think of the difficulty levels is this: an easy question is one that deals with everyday conversation. A pro question is anything else.

When deciding between easy and pro, err on the side of pro. Most questions will be pro.

* Note: non-member askers are not given the option of entering 'pro' questions; the only way for their questions to be classified as 'pro' is for a ProZ.com member or members to re-classify it.

assistance from a subcontractor "to the extent assistance from a subcontractor is necessary" or better
"when a subcontractor is necessary to"

Saw your mes sage to my suggestion. Yes, that's the way I understood it but it's always better if someone can confirm this (or refute it with valid reasons and an alternative).

getting them in place all the way to inaccessible jointing pits

This is basically what I think it means.
Note from asker:
Thanks! So, "sista biten" is kind of like "the last bit of the way".
Peer comment(s):

agree Deane Goltermann : Right, generally for this question. I'd use 'trench' not 'pit' (Disagree entirely with the old kudoz term) Cables are laid in trenches and not pits.
