He is pushing the company to do more user interface, hoping to duplicate at GE some of the same success experienced by Apple founder and 首席执行官 Steven Jobs, known for getting �products in the hands of customers� and letting them �in some ways define the usage in terms of where they go.�

Apple clients are known for exploring all the features of their computer. They are "active" owners of the product instead of "passive" consumers and this makes them very faithful to the brand.

...early, so that customers can have some say in how the product develops.

Thank you. Yes, but in the English-English pair, the aim is usually to give the asker a better understanding of the meaning of the term. An answer just as idiomatic as the question might not help.
