It is literally 'pijn acra', but your explanation is very thorough and gives an explanation of the word as a noun. Thanks.
Barend van Zadelhoff Apr 27, 2010:
acra "acra" is the plural of "akron", I believe, anyway the plural, and translates in English as: acral parts

could you post the exact way it appears in your text?
you tell us it appears after "pijn"
then I would expect "pijn in de acra", which most likely refers to "pain in the hands and feet"

acra = de uiteinden van de ledematen (handen en voeten) en uitstekende lichaamsdelen zoals de kin (Pinkhof)

Dutch term (edited): pijn acra
Selected

peripheral pain or pain in the peripheries/extremities

In my experience, the extremities of the body - i.e. the hands and feet - are more commonly referred to as the peripheries and the pain would not usually be called acral pain but peripheral pain or pain in the extremities. The word acra (from Greek akron) is more usually encountered in English as acro- and used as prefix to some other term, the only one I can think of at the moment being acromegaly. It is very rare to find it used a full word in itself.

Acrocyanosis

Acra is medische benaming voor uitstekende lichaamdelen: handen, voeten, neus, oren en onderkaak.
Acrocyanosis refers to a persistent blue or cyanotic discoloration of the digits, most commonly occurring in the hands although also occurring in the face and feet as wel.

"Vitale tekenen zijn: ademhalingsfrequentie, polsfrequentie, bloeddruk, ‘capillary refill’ en temperatuur van de acra. "
Example sentence:

cyanosis of the extremities, characterized by blueness and coldness of the fingers and toes.

Peer comment(s):

disagree Textpertise : The symptom appears in the asker's listing, not the diagnosis. Nowhere in the term we are asked to translate are we told that the extremities are blue, only that they are painful.
