Co-une

French to English Art/Literary Printing & Publishing Newspaper
Hello,
I need your help for the English equivalent of "co-une".
La UNE is Page one of the newspaper. What can "co-une" refer to? Page two or Co-Page one?

Awaiting your answers!

Thanks, Alison.
I'm not going to post this as an answer, because I suspect the asker has moved on and won't be returning to the question.
Alison MacG Jul 19, 2023:
@Phil - I think you are correct. A couple of examples in which co-une is used in this way.

philgoddard Jul 18, 2023:
We still need the context, please. What does the French say?

I think 'une' may be the lead front-page story, and 'co-une' may mean 'also on the front page' - in the days of print, these were referred to as 'below the fold'.

There are a few references to 'co-une' in this example from Côte d'Ivoire:

Asker You've posted the same discussion item three times, all at 10:51. Can you please delete the two extra ones?
Tony M Jul 18, 2023:
@ Asker I strongly suspect that 'co' here is short for 'couverture' — it seems they are making a distinction between a 'cover' and a 'front page', so logically, this would refer to a page that is BOTH the 'cover' AND the 'front page' — a concept that is a little difficult to grasp in EN, as we don't usually make this distinction.

It's about a newspaper and it said in the table of contents:

It is mentioned: "Page de couverture, "la UNE" and "CO-UNE". I can't get "CO-UNE"

Co-front page

Co-une > Co-front page

........................

This is because a co-front page story is a story that is considered to be so important that it deserves to be featured on both the front page and another page of the newspaper.

Thank you so much!
Excellent! Thank you!

neutral philgoddard : I can't find any evidence for this, and your reference is not relevant. Surely you know that Co stands for Company.
