Thanks to both answerers - in the end I've chosen to combine the two solutions and used "electronic ignitor".

Timed ignitor

A second 'medium' answer. For me there is some ambiguity in usage, which probably requires more context than you have.

The reference below uses this suggestion for your term. But I wonder if you are looking for two kinds of product. Ignitors are generally for certain kinds of armatures that can be used in industrial settings, while electronic starters (more precisely IMO, 'electronic pulse starters') are used for your common office fluorescent and similar armatures. Trouble is, like the Swe term, these En terms are also used interchangeably in varying contexts, so 'ignitor' is also used for 'starter' (=glimtändare).
Here's some fun reading if you find the time...(http://www.venturelighting.com/techcenter/ignitors.html)

This Chinese site, at least, got it right ... http://www.alibaba.com/showroom/ignitor-light-fixture.html
Not a 'light tube' to be found...but luminaires are a complex business...
Peer comment(s):

neutral Charlesp : Interesting - and perhaps. However with the ambiguity, it is hard to say. Excellent suggestion to consider though. ///No, I was praising you (for your ingenuity). My 'neutral' was a lack of understanding of the text of the original.

Thanks, in any case! But don't blame me for others' usage... ;-)
disagree Sven Petersson : "Timed ignitor" is not in common use. '"Timed ignitor" "light tube"' yields 16 (sixteen) Google hits only; and most of those, if not all, are in translations from Chinese.

Ha-ha, Sven you are certainly making fun of the poor chinese! You know that 'light tube' is not the correct term for any kind armature!! Don't you?

Electrical ballast switch/device

Hello
To convince you that this could be right, I've given you the Swedish wiki page and then the English one. Further searches will confirm this technical possibility.
