: Wäre schon eine Interpretation (es steht ja nicht Matrix da) - IMO waren die Proteoglykane in der ECM gemeint, nicht unbedingt die ECM selbst./s. meine Added note - Anne, hier der (ganz seltene!) Fall, wo wir unterschiedlicher Meinung sind ;-)

Weiß schon, dass das nicht 1:1 übersetzt ist, aber wo es eher auf allgemeine Abläufe als auf einzelne biochemische Reaktionen ankommt, scheint es mir genau genug (siehe z.B. Verwendung der Terminologie in der added note).

@Anne, ich habe den Absatz in der URL gelesen;
"Cartilage basically consists of two components: water and a framework of structural macromolecules (matrix) that give the tissue its form and function. The matrix is highly organized and composed of collagens, proteoglycans and noncollagenous proteins."
... du meinst demnach, man könne einfach das Wasser "ignorieren" und Matrix = Makromoleküle verstehen ... Also, die Notwendigkeit zu dieser Vereinfachung sehe ich nicht, wo doch ein gute eingeführter, auch noch verständlicher Ausdruck wie "structural components" vorhanden ist. :-)
Außerdem sind die "Gerüststoffe" eben nicht alle Moleküle in der ECM, sondern nur bestimmte, IMO Kollagen und Proteoglykane.
