English term

depth-averaged ocean current speed

English to French Tech/Engineering Environment & Ecology drill cutting modelling
This study models the dispersion of drill cuttings over a range of hydrodynamic conditions at the proposed location:
1) the minimum, and 2) the maximum depth-averaged and monthly-averaged ocean current speeds.

Discussion

Daryo Jul 23, 2022:
What "feedback from the client" do you need? Can you not recognise that you have already asked the exactly same question on exactly the same date 5 years ago (at 09:11 on the 2017-05-19 vs this one at 10:10 on 2022-05-19).

"English term or phrase: monthly-averaged, depth-averaged current speed
Modelling was performed for two scenarios representing the minimum and maximum of the monthly-averaged, depth-averaged current speeds:
• April 2012 being the minimum speed scenario
• June 2013 being the maximum speed scenario"

Is one added word ("oceanic") enough to throw you completely off balance?
Neydou (asker) May 30, 2022:
Thank you very much for all your suggestions. For the moment, no feedback from the client

Daryo May 19, 2022:
There are no much "options" there is no "poetic licence" in statistics - if expressed clearly, there is only meaning.

What they mean here is that at some given location they measure the current speed at various depths (from the surface to the bottom) and then calculate the average speed at that location - you could say 'toutes profondeurs confondues'. That way they can estimate in average how far these "drill cuttings" will be moved by currents.

"depth-averaged" speed of ocean current = speed measured at various depths and then an "average speed" for all depths included is calculated;

"monthly-averaged" speed of ocean current = speed measured several times during one month and then an "average speed" for the whole month is calculated.
ormiston May 19, 2022:
@ Daryo Do you think it means 'toutes profondeurs confondues'?
Neydou (asker) May 19, 2022:
Dear @Laurent Di Raimondo, I apologise for this. I admit I ask many question within a short time span and take time to close the posts which is due, more often than not, to the fact that I wait for my clients' proofreading before approving a term that may be useful to other ProZ members. It has nothing to do with lack of respect for my peers, bad behaviour or ungratefulness, something you would be aware of if you knew me IRL.
Best regards
Laurent Di Raimondo May 19, 2022:
@Neydou Before endlessly opening new posts asking for help from your peers, it should be swell to think closing all previous ones still carelessly open on KudoZ forum (not less than 10 posts still open...).
I mean it's just a question of respect and consideration towards contributors who may be able to help you find the better answer on their spare time.
Respect and gratefulness is not an option down here, like in real life... Civilized behaviours either.

vitesse moyenne du courant océanique en profondeur

Vitesse.

Two drilling
sites within the Enyenra field (En07-WI and En13-WI) were selected for the dispersion modeling to
represent different water depths along the continental slope. The sites are located approximately 50-70
km south of the coast at water depths of 1330 m and 1990 m, respectively. The study consisted of
simulating the release of drill cuttings and drilling mud at each site for up to four drilling sections, using
varying current conditions over a period of 15 consecutive days. Simulations were performed to
evaluate seabed deposition and sediment plumes following the discharge of cuttings treated with a
thermal desorption unit (TDU).

what would be your suggestion then? "annual inflation averaged 2.4 per cent", this is the basic meaning.

depth-averaged ocean current speed = at a given location, the ocean current speed is measured at various depths, from the surface to the bottom, and then an average of all these speed measurements is calculated.

in fact, the whole of

"depth-averaged and monthly-averaged ocean current speed" is one single value, one "monthly average" of all depth-averaged speeds for that month.

1) the minimum, and 2) the maximum depth-averaged and monthly-averaged ocean current speeds
=
Peer comment(s):

disagree Francois Boye : NON! En profondeur moyenne = moyennée sur la profondeur d’eau//The text said DEPTH-averaged, not SPEED-averaged!

You definitely need to take a look at Statistics 101 ... What is the current speed at some specific depth that happens to be "the average depth" IS NOT what this ST is about // NEITHER it is about "average speeds" at various depths!

current speeds are measured for each level of oceanic depth. So the average current speed is calculated on the basis of all levels of oceanic depths.

Thanks!
disagree Daryo : You replace your deleted wrong answer by a mimic of mine, and in the process manage to **express it in the wrong way!** "par niveau de ..." implies a list of *several* values, one for each "niveau" NOT *one* value that represents an average
