commercial administrative secretary in the export department elaborating quotations, orders, translating
documents, preparing visits and international shows, telephonic and personal attention of clients and
suppliers, taking the responsibility of the department every time the manager was absent.

Company dedicated to social services: cleaning, babysitting, orientation and help for the immigrants.
There I took care of the web-page translation, I was responsible with a team of selecting and
coordinating the staff controlling their work and taking care of satisfying our clients.
During 2006 and 2007 I also translated a novel about the Atlantis (700 pages) and worked during
2 months for the EITB translating the Basque Government tourism web-page.

Textpertise Translations is a husband and wife partnership. The partners have been doing Dutch to English translations since 1970. I am a native speaker of English (U.S.A.) and my husband is a native speaker of Dutch. I have a BA Summa Cum Laude from the City University New York and an MA from Columbia University in the City of New York, both in English Literature. I studied Dutch at the (then) Technische Hogeschool Eindhoven (now renamed the Technical University Eindhoven). My husband is an Ingenieur Elektrotechniek (approximate equivalent MSc. in Electrical Engineering) from Eindhoven. I was born in the U.S.A., he was born in The Netherlands. We have both been living and working in the UK since 1974. We have excellent command of both U.S. English (my native language) and British English (which is the default variant of the English language into which we will translate unless instructed otherwise). We translate Dutch (emanating from Belgium, Holland, Indonesia, Suriname and the Netherlands Antilles) to English (both USA and UK varieties) and have been exposed to terminology in almost every field of knowledge, having worked with many experts on their documentation.

As a translator, I do have experience of regularly translating documents in almost every field of expertise, and although I have ticked a number of fields on my profile, the list is by no means exclusive. I therefore know I have the necessary expertise to handle complex subject matters in many fields and this is underpinned by actual experience.
We pride ourselves on being highly professional. No translation leaves here without being proofread. We strive for high quality translation output and take care to give anyone who commissions us, and by extension those who commission them, the best possible service and reliability. We also regularly deal with confidential or restricted material and are happy to sign a confidentiality agreement if required.
Charges are per source word at the higher end of the scale (and include proofreading). V.A.T. is chargeable in the UK and subject to the reverse charge elsewhere in the EU.
Because the amount of time spent proofreading text translated by others can vary widely depending on the quality of translations, we do not routinely accept proofreading jobs except in arbitrations where we charge by the hour (actual time spent). Arbitrations are cases in which the client claims a translation is inadequate in some way and the translator claims that is not the case. We are asked by the agency to give an independent opinion. This involves a line by line review of the translation with annotations and a report outlining our conclusions substantiated by an estimate of quantum if that is possible in the circumstances. All cases where we have provided such reports have settled out of court based on our reports but we would be prepared to testify if required.
Coming back to routine translations, if a translation job is truly pressurised (e.g. if it is a translation with a deadline which involves working unsocial hours), a higher than standard charge will apply. Idem ditto for highly technical translations for which research will be necessary.
