read-in mechanism/device Explanation: There is also a case to be had for 'lisage mechanism/device'. As far as I can make out, lisage refers to both punching cards for use by the loom and, as mécanisme [your 'dispositif'] de lisage, reading the cards used on the loom. Ceci a eu pour effet de réduire les défauts de lisage dus à l'usure des pièces mécaniques, et d'améliorer sensiblement les vitesses. http://benltoufa.6te.net/contenu/le_tissage_jacquard.html [lisage appears 26 times in the document] From the creation of the designs to the making, a Le Jacquard Français product requires 15 manufacturing steps, all carried out with the greatest care and an infinite sense of detail, before coming to dress your home: creation, lisage (translation of the creations into Jacquard language stitch by stitch), selection of the best quality cotton and linen yarns, countertyping of the yarn colors according to the trends of the moment https://www.le-jacquard-francais.com/en-au/pouch-paysage-cot... lisage is used in the English of Swedish experts here: https://www.diva-portal.org/smash/get/diva2:516245/FULLTEXT0... But it refers to the punching of the cards. Here we have 'read in' for lisage: Read in French lisage German einlesen Italian lettura Portuguese leitura Spanish lisaje, lectura Swedish inräkning To tie the lashes onto the simple of a drawloom (or onto the tail cords); to punch the cards for a Jacquard loom, according to the point paper plan. https://cieta.fr/wp-content/uploads/2021/08/English-Vocabula... The punched cards are made from hard cardboard based on the technical draft or “mise en carte”, a technical drawing of the pattern, using a card punching machine, a so-called lisage machine or reading unit. (Fig. 9.) Punching holes in the cards is called to “läsa” (‘read’) the technical draft in Swedish notes about silk-weaving (compare: Fr. ‘lisage’, Eng. ‘to read’). https://www.diva-portal.org/smash/get/diva2:877029/ATTACHMEN... Punch card production was still time-consuming, involving a design process, mapping the design to the number of holes on a card, then adapting to the restrictions of the fabric grid. But they were reusable. The punch cards were made using a lisage machine ("creating the draft") and once punched, they were stitched together in a chain hung on a roller in the machine. A 60-inch piece of fabric, such as that Vesta left to us, consists of 4,600 warp threads; the Jacquard machines required 600 hooks to lift the threads run by over 3,500 punch cards. Compared to the painstaking process of Kashmiri weaving, making a shawl using a Jacquard loom took weeks rather than months or years. By 1812, there were 11,000 Jacquard looms in use in France; by 1832, there were 600 in Britain. In England, weavers began using steam engines to power the drive belt, and prices for the imitations plummeted. One of the largest manufacturers in Europe was based in Paisley, Scotland; eventually, the swirly buta pattern became known as paisley. https://mail.wasteflake.com/tiki-index.php?page=Paisley Shaw...
