Translation - English Another success story of medical care at Praram 9 Hospital
According to the article in The Straits Times’ website,“ Antibiotic abuse killing thousands in Thailand”, by Tan Hui Yee on 12 November 2016, which stated the situation of inappropriate use of antibiotics and multidrug-resistant bacterial infection situation in Thailand, a case study of a male patient who received intensive medical care at Praram 9 Hospital after being transferred from another hospital due to severe multidrug-resistant bacterial sepsis, was mentioned.
The patient has had chronic kidney failure and received peritoneal dialysis at another hospital. He developed a grave multidrug-resistant bacterial infection at the dialysis port which rapidly spread throughout his abdominal cavity and shortly after, he was in a near fatal condition. His family transferred him to Praram 9 Hospital for a further specialized treatment.
The Praram 9 patient care team including infectious a disease specialist, nephrologists, and ICU nurses, had provided intensive medical care for several weeks until finally, the patient survived the most critical event in his life.
Regarding the situation, The Straits Times reporter had asked for a permission to interview the patient and the attending infectious disease specialist to evoke consciousness and awareness of the consequences of inappropriate antibiotic use and multidrug-resistant bacterial infection in Thailand.
