Blocking the testosterone hormone
to starve tumours
Testosterone is a male sex hormone, a chemical produced naturally in the testicles.
It ”feeds” the growth and development of the prostate gland.
Unfortunately, in men with prostate cancer, testosterone can also “feed” the
cancerous prostate cells, making them grow more quickly.
One of the treatment options for prostate cancer is thus “Hormone Therapy” to reduce
the amount of the testosterone hormone in the body. This starves the tumour and
makes it shrink.
