I prefer limits to range.
Why? It is broader and covers more situations than range.
A range suggests a contiguous zone or area. This may not always be the case in describing medical, or for that matter, other situations.

a normal (range/size) cardiac silhouette
'silhouette' is the word used in X-ray description I believe, rather than 'shadow'. It means a 'dark outline or shadow in profiel against lighter background'.
