Italian term

piena conoscenza

Italian to English Law/Patents Law (general) administrative
Devo tradurre questa espressione nell'ambito dell'avvertimento circa i mezzi di impugnazione di un provvedimento di revoca di permesso di soggiorno. Si dice testualmente " contro il presente provvedimento è ammesso ricorso entro XXX giorni dalla notifica o piena conoscenza del presente atto": within XXX days of the service or of full knowledge of this document???).
Grazie per eventuali suggerimenti.

Discussion

ChananZass Sep 10, 2015:
appeal or fully accept I thought that is the usual legal expression...
philgoddard Sep 10, 2015:
I don't think a literal translation works here. Alison may be right that it's bad writing.
It's not clear what "full knowledge" means - the alternative is partial knowledge, which implies that there's a document floating around in space somewhere, you're vaguely aware that it exists, but you don't know exactly what it says.
I'd suggest something myself, but I'm not clear what the writer was trying to say, and I can see why the asker posted it.

Peer comment(s):

agree Fiona Grace Peterson : Yes, although I would simply go with "awareness of". What does it matter if you're fully or partially aware of the document's existence?

Thanks, Fiona. I think there is a difference. You could be aware that such a document exists without being fully aware of its contents.

4 KudoZ points awarded for this answer. Comment: "Thank you, Wendy. I agree it's badly expressed in Italian as someone has pointed out, anyway the sense is fully expressed by your translation. "

neutral philgoddard : I know this is the literal translation, but how would you render "dalla notifica o piena conoscenza del presente atto"?

neutral Alison Kennedy : I agree with Phil - this is very badly expressed in Italian
