The more I look at it, the less I understand it - is there something wrong with the Italian or is it just me? It's probably just me!
Any suggestions welcome.

Ivana a falda can be one of two things either a geological fault line or the "water table". Don't ask me why. In tunnel engineering it is almost always the water table. If you start digging down, when water appears in the bottom of the hole, that is the water table. A big problem for tunnelling and foundations of buildings. Here it would seem that you want to use it. Is it for a water works? Just one example look for "sotto falda"

Ivana, I hadn't read the sentence, to be honest. Your translation seems fine. The useable part is because the groundwater must be used for irrigation or drinking water. Your pozzo perdente would seem to be an "absorbing well" a soakaway (drain) and not a recharging basin (geological structure) - back to my boring finance which pays more

| Thanks James, thanks for your suggestion - you're right - it definitely refers to a water table. It's finding a concise translation for the whole sentence that's proving awkward - ..."the system is unsuitable for compacted clay soils or porous limestone rock with underlying usable watertable/groundwater" just doesn't do it for me (and doesn't really make much sense) ... I just can't seem to find a translation that sounds natural! |
