German term

Kultur- und Kreativwirtschaft

German to English Bus/Financial Business/Commerce (general)
This is from an article about a certain region in Germany. It refers to music, theatre, media etc.

The heading of the piece is "Kultur- und Kreativwirtschaft" and the term is also used in a sentence: "Region XYZ gilt heute innerhalb Deutschlands als bedeutender Standort der Kultur- und Kreativwirtschaft mit wachsenden Beschäftigungszahlen."

Any ideas for "Kultur- und Kreativwirtschaft"? My working translation is "cultural and creative industries", but I'm not very happy with it.

Many thanks

Ian

"cultural and creative industries" sounds fine to me. Others seem to agree; cf. e.g. http://eprints.qut.edu.au/archive/00000588/

How about ... ... "cultural and creative sectors"?

cultural and creative industry

i.e. "industry" in the sense of Fleiß

Otherwise:
- a major centre/powerhouse of culture and creativity/creative energy

Sorry, should have been "cultural" instead of "culture"

neutral Richard Benham : We just don't say that in English. "Wirtschaft" here means "industry" or "business", not "economy".

agree Erik Macki : I think "economy" works just fine in this context. There are plenty of hits on Google for this usage in this type of context as well.

culture and creativity-based business

another option
Peer comment(s):

agree Richard Benham : This is fine, but I would put a hyphen after "culture" to show that it is related to "-based business". Otherwise it would be two things (1) culture, and (2) creativity-based business.

Culturally developed and creative industry

Culturally rich & vibrant and creative industry
(or)
Culturally sensitive and creative industry
Peer comment(s):

disagree Richard Benham : Sorry, but that's not really what it's about. It is about economic activity of a cultural nature.

Richard, I am not sure, it is about economic activity ofa cultural nature. The text says, the region is known for music, theatre, etc. and that is what "cultural development" is about. Do you still have reservation about my suggestion Richard?

cultural and creative sectors

is a good choice, since it includes businesses and freelancers ( and probably also public institutions)
Anyway this is one definition:
