And the beer I had for breakfast wasn't bad, So I had one more for dessert. Then I fumbled in my closet through my clothes And found my cleanest dirty shirt. Then I washed my face and combed my hair And stumbled down the stairs to meet the day. I'd smoked my mind the night before With cigarettes and songs I'd been picking. But I lit my first and watched a small kid Playing with a can that he was kicking. Then I walked across the street And caught the Sunday smell of someone's frying chicken. And Lord, it took me back to something that I'd lost Somewhere, somehow along the way. On a Sunday morning sidewalk, I'm wishing, Lord, that I was stoned. 'Cause there's something in a Sunday That makes a body feel alone. And there's nothing short a' dying That's half as lonesome as the sound Of the sleeping city sidewalk And Sunday morning coming down. In the park I saw a daddy With a laughing little girl that he was swinging. And I stopped beside a Sunday school And listened to the songs they were singing. Then I headed down the street, And somewhere far away a lonely bell was ringing, And it echoed through the canyon Like the disappearing dreams of yesterday. On a Sunday morning sidewalk, I'm wishing, Lord, that I was stoned. 'Cause there's something in a Sunday That makes a body feel alone. And there's nothing short a' dying That's half as lonesome as the sound Of the sleeping city sidewalk And Sunday morning coming down. tanglsus United States Winner

Every time I've lost another lover I call up my old friend And I say let's get together I'm under the weather Another love has come to an end And she listens as I tell her my sad story And wonders at my taste in friends And we ponder why I do it And the pain of getting through it And she laughs and says, "You'll do it again" But we sit in a bar and talk till two About life and love as old friends do And tell each other what we've been through Our love is rare, life is strange Nothing lasts, people change And I ask her if her life is ever lonely And if she ever feels despair And she says she's learned to love it 'Cause that's really all part of it And it helps her feel the good times when they're there Yes, we sit in a bar and talk till two About life and love as old friends do And tell each other what we've been through Our love is rare, life is strange Nothing lasts, people change And we wonder if I'll live with any lovers Or spend my life alone And the bartender is dozin' And it's getting time for closin' So we figure that I'll go it on my own But we'll meet the year we're 62 And travel the world as old friends do And tell each other what we've been through Our love is rare, life is strange Nothing lasts, people change Love is rare, life is strange Nothing lasts, people change ... http://www.cbsnews.com/news/almanac-mary-martin-broadways-peter-pan/ Almanac: Mary Martin, Broadway's Peter Pan CBS NEWS December 1, 2013, 9:47 AM Mary Martin won a Tony Award as Peter Pan, the boy who never grew up, and repeated her performance on national television in the 1950s. NBC (CBS News) And now a page from our "Sunday Morning" Almanac: December 1st, 1913, 100 years ago today . . . the birthday of a singer and actress who played the boy who never grew old. Mary Martin was born that day in small-town Texas. Nicknamed "Audition Mary" for her persistence in seeking roles, Mary Martin wowed Broadway in 1938 with her rendition of "My Heart Belongs to Daddy," in Cole Porter's "Leave It to Me." In 1949, she made the cover of Life magazine for her starring role in the Rodgers and Hammerstein musical, "South Pacific." Then, in 1954 another Broadway opening: the title role in the musical version of "Peter Pan," performed three times on TV, most recently in 1960. I'm flying! Look at me, way up high, Suddenly, here am I, I'm fly-ing! Peter Pan's nemesis Captain Hook was played by Cyril Ritchard, who by coincidence was ALSO born on December 1st . . . in 1897. Martin and Ritchard both won Tony Awards for their roles in "Peter Pan," and in time went on to other projects, most notably Martin's star turn as Maria in the original Broadway production of "The Sound of Music" in 1959. Martin (who by the way is the mother of "Dallas" star Larry Hagman) went on to receive Kennedy Center Honors In 1989, the year before her death -- and in an interview recalled her famous Neverland role: "I will always be Peter Pan. I have a vision of wanting to fly out of Madison Square Garden at the end." And though Mary Martin and Cyril Ritchard are now both long gone, countless members of the generation that grew up in the 1950s and '60s still fondly remember watching their television portrayals of Peter Pan and Captain Hook. Theirs are performances that never grow old.

See more You're the Top - Ethel Merman and Frank Sinatra http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Vc7152gQK-U You're The Top(1934)- Ethel Merman http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=aCxDUQ6Uisk You're The Top - by Cole Porter At words poetic, I'm so pathetic That I always have found it best, Instead of getting 'em off my chest, To let 'em rest unexpressed, I hate parading my serenading As I'll probably miss a bar, But if this ditty is not so pretty At least it'll tell you How great you are. You're the top! You're the Coliseum. You're the top! You're the Louver Museum. You're a melody from a symphony by Strauss You're a Bendel bonnet, A Shakespeare's sonnet, You're Mickey Mouse. You're the Nile, You're the Tower of Pisa, You're the smile on the Mona Lisa I'm a worthless check, a total wreck, a flop, But if, baby, I'm the bottom you're the top! Your words poetic are not pathetic. On the other hand, babe, you shine, And I can feel after every line A thrill divine Down my spine. Now gifted humans like Vincent Youmans Might think that your song is bad, But I got a notion I'll second the motion And this is what I'm going to add; You're the top! You're Mahatma Gandhi. You're the top! You're Napoleon Brandy. You're the purple light Of a summer night in Spain, You're the National Gallery You're Garbo's salary, You're cellophane. You're sublime, You're turkey dinner, You're the time, the time of a Derby winner I'm a toy balloon that’s fated soon to pop But if, baby, I'm the bottom, You're the top! You're the top! You're an arrow collar You're the top! You're a Coolidge dollar, You're the nimble tread Of the feet of Fred Astaire, You're an O'Neill drama, You're Whistler's mama! You're camembert. You're a rose, You're Inferno's Dante, You're the nose On the great Durante. I'm just in a way, As the French would say, "de trop". But if, baby, I'm the bottom, You're the top! You're the top! You're a dance in Bali. You're the top! You're a hot tamale. You're an angel, you, Simply too, too, too diveen, You're a Botticelli, You're Keats, You're Shelly! You're Ovaltine! You're a boom, You're the dam at Boulder, You're the moon, Over Mae West's shoulder, I'm the nominee of the G.O.P. Or GOP! But if, baby, I'm the bottom, You're the top! You're the top! You're a Waldorf salad. You're the top! You're a Berlin ballad. You're the boats that glide On the sleepy Zuider Zee, You're an old Dutch master, You're Lady Astor, You're broccoli! You're romance, You're the steppes of Russia, You're the pants, on a Roxy usher, I'm a broken doll, a fol-de-rol, a blop, But if, baby, I'm the bottom, You're the top!
