and not "Kotter", the longest German words encountered in ten years of translation I listed above show that German compounds aren't that terribly long…

…this is especially a problem for those who do machine-assisted translation: I well remember
"Flocks of milking sheep graze the valleys" which was machine-translated into
"Flocken des Melkens Schafabschürfung die Täler",
with the additional problem how to render the -ing form, which is also shown in
"deep gorges, rushing torrents, high mountain pastures"
translated
"tief Hohlkehlen, indem man Sturzbäche eilt, hoher Berg weidet"!

Kraftfahrzeughaftpflichtversicherungsvertrag Oct 2, 2003

The longest German word (not hyphenated) I've ever come across is Kraftfahrzeughaftpflichtversicherungsvertrag. It's mentioned once by google, I didn't invent it

Today 16 Oct. on KudoZ Lorenzo proposed "Eierschalensollbruchstellenverursacher "…

This makes me remember why Computational morphology - computational analysis, construction and deconstruction of words -
is such a rich field in Germany...
