Hi,
As I didn't find a Slovenian forum, I decided to post my questions here - hope that somebody can help me!
I'm translating a text about the National Council of Slovenia where it says that one of its competences is to "withhold decisions taken by the National Assembly". Does that mean that the National Council actually has the right to use its veto?
And another one: Apparently there is a project in Slovenia called "The Growing Book" or Rasto_a knjiga. I guess that the _ was o

And another one: Apparently there is a project in Slovenia called "The Growing Book" or Rasto_a knjiga. I guess that the _ was originally a special sign and got lost when the text was transferred. Can anybody tell me what the first word should be?
Thanks for your help and sorry if I've got the wrong forum.

Answer to your second question Jun 8, 2006

Hi Irene,
I'm not familiar with Slovenian Constitution Law so I can't help you with your first question.
Re. second one - the missing letter is "č" pronounced "ch". I'm not sure if you can see it properly but it is letter c with little v on top.
Good luck!
Kemal

Thanks! Jun 8, 2006

Hi Kemal,
Thanks a lot - just what I needed!
In the meantime I also found a website in connection with the Slovenian Constitution and it seems that my original interpretation of "withhold" was right.
Best regards from Zurich to Australia,
Irene

One of the competences of the national council (Državni svet) is indeed so called "suspensory veto on an adopted law" which means that the NC may require that the NA reconsiders a law prior to its proclamation.

Prior to the proclamation of a law by the President of the Republic, the president of the National Assembly submits the text of the adopted law to the president of the National Council.

A majority of all deputies of the National Assembly must vote in favour of the reconsideration of a law, unless the Constitution requires a greater number of votes. The reconsideration of a law by the National Assembly is final.

Best regards,

Aleksandra
