Introduction
The following terms and definitions can assist you when working with Printer X.
B
Browser
Application program, such as Microsoft’s Internet Explorer, that lets you display HTML documents.
C
CSV
Comma-separated values. A format for text files where table data is separated by commas.
D
Default Setting
System setting incorporated at the factory and permanently registered to the application. Also, a value or a setting that the software assumes until or unless you specify another value.
Devices
A piece of hardware such as a scanner, printer, fax machine, digital camera or copier.
DPI
Dots per inch. A unit of measurement for indicating a printer’s resolution.
F
Form Classification
In Printer X, form classification is the process of defining the target folder and index data contained in a specific form. Scanned forms are compared to the classified forms and if there is a match, the scanned file is automatically indexed and routed to the appropriate folder.
FTP/FTPS
File Transfer Protocol/FTP-SSL. Standard protocol for transferring files from one system to another. FTP-SSL is an extension to the protocol using SSL for secure file transfer.

GPO
Group Policy Object. In Windows, a set of rules that define how the system will behave for a group of users.
Grayscale
An image in black and white created from a color image using different intensities of black.
H
HTTP/HTTPS
Hypertext Transfer Protocol / HTTP Secure. Protocol to transfer web data from between servers and clients. HTTPS is an encrypted form of the protocol.
I
ICT
Sharp compression technology for creating highly compressed PDFs while maintaining quality.
Internet Information Services
Microsoft’s web server software that is included in Windows operating systems.
Image
In Printer X, an image is used interchangeably with Document. Commands and functions work exactly the same regardless of whether the item in question is a .TIF file or a .JPG file.
Index Data
Used interchangeably with metadata. Data or properties that describes the scanned document.
