ProZ.com powwow: Germany study trip

April 21, 2017, 9:00 pm
GermanyHamburgIn personEnglish
Hello, everyone!

Let's get together for this year's first translators' powwow in Hamburg!

I'm making a study trip (Germany being part of it) related to the PhD research "A model strategy for success in the market of freelance translators: key determiners" that I'm currently working on at the University of Pompeu Fabra in Barcelona.

I believe you'll find the topic of my research intriguing and I'd like to invite you to come and share your experience.

The purpose of this powwow is to meet fellow translators from Hamburg and its surroundings, to build a network of colleagues, business associates and more, and last but not least - to have fun!

On a work side note, speaking of which your support would be greatly appreciated, I'm bringing a questionnaire related to my research and you will be invited to fill it out if you feel like doing it. No worries, it'll take you not more than 10-15 min. and then we'll be ready to start off the weekend in a super friendly atmosphere!

See you!

Harburg Apr 17, 2017

Do we have a place yet?

If not, how about the Caspari in Hamburg-Harburg? (Not sure where exactly everyone is coming from)

Happy Easter Apr 17, 2017

Hello, everyone!

First of all, happy Easter!

Mirja, thanks a lot for your suggestion! Sounds like a great idea, although I was thinking about some place in a more central location. I'm arriving in Hamburg on Wednesday evening and I'm going to decide about the event venue and let you know no later than Thursday evening. Most probably it will be in St. Pauli. Hope it's alright with all of you!

See you on Friday!

All the best,
Milena

St. Pauli may be too busy Friday nights. I am not familiar with the center of the cityicon_frown.gif But Altona is pretty nice.

Not really my scene either Apr 19, 2017

St. Pauli isn't really my scene either and a convenient place to park my car would be important for me, since I live about 30 km out of Hamburg. Altona would be cool, too.

Altona! Apr 20, 2017

Feel free to choose a place in Altona and let me know. I am not familiar with that neighbourhood, but since you are locals, I guess you know the city much better than me.

Let's confirm the venue until tonight, ok?

See you tomorrow,
Milena

2 possible places Apr 20, 2017

I checked the places in Altona, and these are the 2 options that I find convenient for the powwow: Altamira tapas bar and Cafe bar Knuth.

Which one do you prefer?

Altamira Apr 20, 2017

I just came by this thread - I won't be able to attend, just a quick warning: You probably won't be able to get a reservation for the Altamira for tomorrow. Also, it's usually packed and very noisy, which makes any conversation difficult. And last but not least, the food is not as good as it used to be, not by a long shot. I used to be a regular patron, but I'm no longer.

Enjoy the powwow!

Hi, just a quick note to let you know that I might make it for the meeting but probably around 9 pm (need to finish a job first ...)
