thestatutes and regulations governing compensation and conflicts of interest, of medical researchers

Explanation:
From context.
Various alternatives are possible. E.g. "the statutes, regulations, and guidelines ...". "the statutes, administrative decrees, etc.". Also e.g. "...researchers (research personnel and institutions)...".
Etc.etc.

"anti-gift legislation" seems too narrow. I think the entire regulatory scheme governing compensation and conflicts of interest is meant. Not to mention that the governing terms are not only in "legislation" but also in other regulatory forms.
